Organizing course materials
Carmen_sm_thumb_mini Posted by Carmen Ferrara on March 03, 2012 @ 04:19 AM
We recently released a new feature that allows teachers to quickly and easily organize content within the main navigation area of a course.  Over time, as pages and presentations are added to a course, the list of items can get quite long.  You may want to direct your students to just the current lesson's most pertinent content.   So, we added the ability to hide/show pages and presentations.  Here's a quick screencast that demonstrates this useful new feature:

We really enjoyed our time at the annual MassCUE technology conference this past week.  It is a great event that brings together all things education and technology.  This event really represented our public "launch".  We had some great conversations and folks seemed very excited about our new online learning system.  Here are some pics from the event.

Last week I had the opportunity to give a presentation at an event over at Bentley University. The event was sponsored by METAA (Massachusetts Educational Technology Administrators Association). METAA is the professional organization for K-12 leaders of educational technology in Massachusetts. The topic of the conference was "Cloud Computing in Education". It was a great event and I met some wonderful people. My session was titled - "Blended Learning - A New Online Environment". Here are the slides below:

Social Media integration in the LMS
Carmen_sm_thumb_mini Posted by Carmen Ferrara on May 06, 2011 @ 02:49 AM

Social Media integration right within your LMS - what a novel concept.  In building iPresent Online, one of our goals was to integrate easily with the various 3rd party social media sites that have become so popular around the web these days.  When planning an online training initiative, one of the biggest hassles is figuring out how to get your existing users registered in the new system.  This often makes the thought of changing LMS providers a daunting one.  Well, in this wonderful new world of Social Learning, your users or members or students can simply sign in to your new LMS using their existing social media account.

iPresent Online supports user registration and authentication via Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, Google, and Yahoo.  We will be adding more 3rd party providers in the future.  iPresent Online is also, all about flexibility.  So we allow site administrators to choose either Social Media account registration or standard registration, or both.  Also, administrators may choose which social site providers your members can authenticate with.

By integrating with some of the web's most popular social services, this also allows for deeper integrations in the future.  I hope you enjoy the new updates.

Site Updates - site pages and menus
Carmen_sm_thumb_mini Posted by Carmen Ferrara on April 22, 2011 @ 08:07 PM

We've continue to update iPresentOnline.  In this latest round of improvments, we focused on allowing more flexibility in your site's navigation and design.  Updates include:

  • Complete control over your Site's Main Tabs - create heirarchical menus/submenus with links to existing site pages or exeternal URLs
  • Ability to set your site's "Start Page".  By default, iPresentOnline provides a "Timeline" start page when you visitors first come to your site.  You may now specify any page you'd like as the first page visitors are greeted with.
  • Pages - A major addition is the ability to create Site, Group, or Member pages.  Pages can include text, images, attachments, videos, links, etc.

Site Updates - Videos, presentations, chat
Carmen_sm_thumb_mini Posted by Carmen Ferrara on April 08, 2011 @ 07:21 PM

Over the past several weeks we've made quite a few updates to the site.  Here's a summary of changes:

  • Video presentations (FLV, MP4, M4V uploads) are now streamed via Amazon's Cloudfront CDN.  This will improve playback performance and will allow viewers to quickly and easily seek to various points in a video.
  • Added support for embedded MP3 presentations.  Uploading an MP3 when creating a presentation will now display an embedded media player.
  • Improved Presentation file uploads.  The site can better handle larger and more simultaneous Presentation file uploads.  Also, added a progress bar for large file uploads.
  • Improved site search - added searching for Blog Posts and Wiki Pages
  • Improved Presentation processing and viewing experience.  All document based presentations (PPT, PPTX, PDF) are now converted to images to allow viewing by anyone with a browser. Each presentation is embedded on its own page, along with our slideshow player and comments.
  • Fixed some minor issues with our Live Chat room feature

I am so very proud to announce the release of iPresent Online!  It has taken a long time to get to this point, but it has been worth it and I am very excited.  iPresent Online is a hosted service that allows anyone to create their own social eLearning and community training website.

Going forward, this blog will serve as the primary iPresent Online product blog.  I'll be posting news and updates on iPresent Online and as well as other company releated topics.
